We may not have the warmth of Royal Ascot in summer, but Cheltenham races Ladies Day still means top fashion and huge crowds as millions of pounds is bet both on course, in shops and online all around the world.
There will be an abundance of Cheltenham day two tips for punters nearer post time, but for now here is how we line up for day two.
The race, and the day, start at Over that distance there are ten hurdles to navigate over the run, but, it is always a great start to get the Cheltenham day 2 card underway.
It has been on the card since and has been taken in the past by such great names as Istabraq, Faugheen and Samcro showing that it takes a real good one to get the job done.
McManus owned Champ is among the favourites for the Ballymore Novices Hurdle, having made his debut at Ascot back in January The seven-year-old second season novice finished as runner-up that day, although trainer Nicky Henderson chose to be patient before attempting to win over hurdles.
Champ won at both Perth and Warwick with relative ease, before winning back-to-back races at Newbury in December. However, with Champ having yet to face a significant test during his short career, it remains to be seen how he will cope at a stage such as Cheltenham.
The Irish challenge in the Ballymore Novices Hurdle is spearheaded by Battleoverdoyen, with the Gordon Elliott-trained Gigginstown stud having won all four of his races during his short career.
H aving come out on top on his debut at Loughanmore in April , before opening his hurdles account with a win at Navan back in December.
However, having been outclassed by Champ in the Challow Hurdle at Newbury, the six-year-old will have to produce the best performance of his career if he is to come out on top at Cheltenham in March.
Known simply as the RSA or the RSA Chase, this novice event is a Grade 1 run over just a little more than three miles and as such it is seen as a very early trial for future Cheltenham Gold Cups and other top staying chases.
The excellent Champ currently holds favouritism in the early betting market for The RSA has been run since under different names and has real historical significance, winners in the past including future Gold Cup and Grand National winners such as Miinnehoma, Looks Like Trouble and Denman.
Delta Work has won three from three races over fences, while the six-year-old has also won the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham just 12 months ago , where he was ridden by jockey Davy Russell.
Trainer Gordon Elliott will be hoping for an improved performance in this race having only placed with Jessies Dream in , with Delta Work opening his account over fences with a win at Down Royal in November, before coming out on top in two Grade 1 races.
He defeated the impressive Le Richebourg at Fairyhouse, who is still the only horse to have beaten Delta Work. For a horse who goes well on any ground, Delta Work should well be in with a shout at Cheltenham this year.
Topofthegame is the biggest threat for Paul Nicholls, with the seven-year-old having done little wrong so far this season, including finishing second behind only Defi Du Seuil at Exeter.
Topofthegame then stepped up in distance in the Grade 1 Kuato Star Chase at Kempton at the end of the year, having looked solid before eventually finishing second behind La Bague Au Roi.
Many feel that the track at Cheltenham will suit the seven-year-old, who has three career victories to his name. The first of the handicap races on Cheltenham Wednesday is the Grade 3 Coral Cup which is the second of this hour, at Run over the distance of 2 miles 5 furlong , with 10 fences to hurdle over the horses, aged four and over, must be at their best to stand a chance of winning this prestigious race.
Interestingly, no horse has ever won this outing in consecutive years. A Grade 3 handicap hurdle race run over 2 miles and 5 furlongs, the Coral Cup is severely competitive and can feature all hurdlers aged four and over.
Despite having to cover 2m5f and ten hurdles, the Coral Cup is usually a bona fide cavalry charge with the pace frenetic from the very beginning, something that makes it what it is in terms of its popularity with punters.
The Charles Brynes-trained six-year-old has now won four of his last five races, including successes at Limerick and Galway. However, an eight place finish in the Handicap Hurdle at Fairyhouse in December last year demonstrated that he is far from the finished article, faltering at the first fence and never recovering.
Despite this, Off You Go could well be another good runner for owner J. McManus at Cheltenham this year.
Ruby Walsh gave him too much to do in the Ladbrokes Hurdle at Leopardstown at the beginning of February , eventually finishing in fifth behind winner Off You Go.
The eight-year-old is now without a win in his last five races, with his last success coming in July at Galway, finishing ahead of the much fancied Limini after an excellent sprint finish.
Six-year-old Big Time Dancer heads to Cheltenham off the back of two consecutive victories, having won at both Doncaster and Kempton either side of the new year.
It is a highlight of the medium distance National Hunt racing calendar and was given its name in honour of recognising the Queen Mothers 80th birthday, along with her huge support of jump racing.
As one of the highlights of the jump racing schedule, it is a befitting name. Open to horses of five years, and older, this Grade 1 outing is the race not to be missed from Cheltenham Wednesday racecards!
This Grade 1 outing is open to horses of five years old, and older, and is run over the distance of 1 mile 7 furlongs with twelve fences to clear.
While more money will be bet on the previous race, this one represents the true quality on show during Cheltenham races on Ladies Day Naturally a Grade 1 event, this two-mile chase is the biggest race of its type all season and as the name suggests, effectively crowns the champion minimum distance chaser for the year with the best of Britain and Ireland both taking part.
The Champion Chase is run on the Old Course with participants having to take thirteen fences. Altior has landed the Festival treble by winning the Supreme Novices Hurdle, Arkle Chase and Queen Mother Champion Chase in consecutive seasons , with an aggregate victory margin of around 20 lengths demonstrating his dominance.
Despite having been kept off the track for a small period last season, Altior has quickly rediscovered his top form, defeating Un De Sceux in the Tingle Creek at Sandown, before winning once more at Kempton at the end of Elsewhere, Irish Champion trainer Willie Mullins will be looking to Min to put the pressure on Altior, having finished as runner up in two major races already.
Min has won on his last two outings, including finishing ahead of Shattered Love at Punchestown back in December, before overcoming Ordinary World to win the Grade 1 Dublin Chase at the same track in January this year.
The eight-year-old looks in top form ahead of the Cheltenham Festival, with his mark of putting him just 8lbs behind race favourite Altior.
